Throughout the world, March is traditionally the month of the Francophonie, which is why on Friday, 31 March, Savremena’s students organised an interesting event to join the devotees of the French language, culture and art.
What is Francophonie?
The Francophonie is an international organisation which includes countries and regions that use French as the national, official and working language.
Modern Francophonie was established in 1970, the year which saw the rise of the ideas of “equality, complementarity and solidarity” (égalité, complémentarité, solidarité), advocated by this organisation. Its member states cooperate in various fields – culture, science, economics, the promotion of justice and peace. In our country, it has been celebrated since 2006, when Serbia joined the International Organisation of La Francophonie as an observer.
Savremena’s students as famous French people
Savremena’s students who learn French prepared an interesting musical and dramatic performance for their schoolmates.
Dressed as famous figures from French history and culture, they encouraged their peers to guess who they were portraying. Unusual and convincing masks, costumes and props helped them identify with their characters.
The mysterious protagonists included the Impressionist painter Claude Monet and the first female winner of the Nobel prize, Marie Curie. As soon as the “little black dress” was mentioned the students correctly guessed it was the fashion designer Coco Chanel, and they also quickly attributed the famous sentence “Let them eat cake” to Marie Antoinette, one of the most powerful women in French history. Savremena’s students stepped into the shoes of Molière, Jean Reno, Edith Piaf, Victor Hugo, Zinedine Zidane, Louis XIV, Napoleon and Joan of Arc. They found themselves in the same place at the same time, bringing to life various periods in French history.
Such an unusual group of people can only be seen in a truly different school, where creativity erases the boundaries of time and space.
Sounds, scents and flavours of France
The musical talent of Savremena’s students added a special touch to this French-themed day. By performing well-known songs, the students presented the musicality of the French language, bringing a taste of France to the classrooms and making everyone feel for a moment as if they were sitting on the banks of the Seine or the Loire.
The unmistakable scent of Chanel increased everyone’s enjoyment, and taking into account that no visit to France would be complete without the famous croissants, the guests were served these delicacies by their famous French hosts.
Truly different approach to French language and culture
Inspired by the spirit of France, Savremena’s students enriched their knowledge, and the interesting and original approach to the lessons made them even more interested in the history, tradition and culture of this nation.
Lessons at Savremena transcend the traditional framework and enable students to explore, test and experience what they learn, thus making their knowledge permanent and indelible. This is why these are among our students’ favourite lessons.
