competence tree

In order for students to be ready for the upcoming challenges, we make sure to prepare them well, starting from the upper primary grades, and all the way through high school. Education in International School is a perfect mix of theory and practice, general and professional knowledge, simultaneously giving students insight into common knowledge and culture. By developing competencies necessary for students’ intellectual and emotional development, our school not only prepares them for further schooling, but also for real-life situations.

With inter-disciplinary competence, our students can successfully cope with challenges in everyday life and work. They are the result of a number of activities that are implemented in all subjects throughout secondary education. Proper development of these competences requires excellence not only in understanding the curriculum, but also in teaching methods. Student learning, therefore, features research and interactive methods, reflection, critical thinking, cooperative learning, as well as other methods that empower student participation in school activities.

Due to our active and dedicated work on developing and nurturing the written and spoken word, our students can understand, use and reflect in a critical manner their ideas, facts, feelings and attitudes that others express in their native language, in written and spoken communication alike. They are capable of expressing and interpreting their own thoughts, attitudes and feelings, both in the written and spoken form. Our students actively work towards developing their language abilities in order to advantageously, without difficulty, participate in a plethora of social and cultural events in an adequate, constructive and creative way.

Foreign language learning at International School implies the ability to understand, present and think critically about ideas at a near-native level.

Owing to innovative methods for successful learning, our students can use, describe and explain mathematical concepts and procedures, estimate calculations, make mathematics-based decisions, and solve problems in a variety of situations. They can identify and understand the role that mathematics has today, and actively, constructively and critically participate in the life and development of their community.

At International School, students successfully use and apply knowledge and scientific methods in identifying problems, formulating explanations, and arriving at factual conclusions about issues of scientific importance. They do realise that science constitutes the most important form of human knowledge and activity relevant to the development of society. They have a high level of awareness of the way science and technology shape life today, and how important it is to have a responsible attitude towards the use of scientific achievements for present and future generations.

Education at International School enables students to recognise, understand and solve problems in situations in which solutions are not obvious at first sight. By doing so, they rely on the knowledge and skills acquired across curriculum. Problem-solving skills also involve student’s readiness to resourcefully and constructively contribute to solving problems facing their community today.

Students at International School competently and critically acquire and use IT knowledge, bringing closer their experiences to the requirements of the modern society, all with a view to fulfilling their personal goals and activities.
