Digital Media and Design teacher Ms Lora Mitić recently took two Year 13 students to the Aktivitet: 100 Years of Surrealism exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade. This visit was an essential part of their coursework, as the Digital Media and Design syllabus requires students to select an artistic movement to serve as inspiration for their projects. Surrealism is among the recommended styles for study, making this exhibition a valuable opportunity for students to explore the movement firsthand.
The exhibition marks the centenary of surrealism and features over 200 works, including drawings, paintings, collages, assemblages, photographs, surrealist objects, and installations. By presenting surrealism not as a singular, monolithic movement but as a dynamic and evolving artistic force, the exhibition encourages a fresh, critical perspective on its lasting impact.
Through this experience, students gained deeper insight into surrealist techniques and themes, helping them make informed decisions about incorporating surrealist elements into their own creative projects.
