In oder for students to understand the various kinds of consequences cyber bullying can have and to learn how to protect themselves from them, it is important to be fully informed on the matter. Savremena’s students learned about cyber bullying and delinquency during a lecture given by inspectors at the Belgrade Criminal Police Department’s Unit for Delinquency Prevention.
Cyber Bullying
We often hear about various cases of children and adolescents engaging in delinquency and illegal behaviour. Even though statistics show that the rate of such crimes has gone down in the past year, the crimes committed by individuals who are underage can be particularly vicious. In addition, the digital world has become an essential part of our everyday life but it can also be an unwelcoming place for students as harassment and bullying have found their way onto the digital medium much like everything else.
To establish a safe environment and a culture of kindness, Savremena’s students engaged int various campaigns initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in cooperation with other ministries, institutions and organisations. During the lecture, students found out what kinds of consequences cyber bullying can have and how to protect themselves from it.
The importance of raising awareness on cyber bullying
The lecture gave students an opportunity to find out how cyber bullying is treated in the eyes of the law, how underage delinquents are prosecuted and how they can influence and control their personal safety and the safety of their peers. By carefully listening to the inspectors, Savremena’s students learned how to maintain their safety as well as that of their peers and how to successfully overcome all the challenges the modern world and modern technologies may send their way.
