Pursuant to Article 34 of the International School Statute, the Executive Board of the International School, at the meeting held on the 7 .12. 2021. has adopted the following:

REGULATIONS ON ASSESSMENT

I Basic provisions

Article 1

These Regulations set out the goals of assessment of achievement of learning outcomes in accordance with the Cambridge International standards, assessment procedures, the manner of registering grades, as well as the rights and obligations of teachers and students.

II Assessment goals

Article 2

The goals of assessing the achievement of learning outcomes include the evaluation of students’ knowledge and competencies according to subject and exam requirements, in accordance with the standards of the Cambridge International, as well as the establishment of a precise and standardized framework for formative monitoring of learning outcomes of the Cambridge International during schooling at the International School.

Assessment at the International School is conducted based on criteria established by Cambridge International.

III Internal and external assessment

Article 3

During the school year, student assessment at the International School is conducted internally, through active class participation, oral or written assessments, projects and homework, by subject teachers, and in accordance with the criteria and standards established by Cambridge International.

The grade that a student can obtain through active participation, in oral or written assessments, projects and homework, is expressed in letters, and based on the success expressed in percentages:

  • grade A * the student receives if he achieves a success rate of 90-100%;
  • grade A student received if he achieves a success rate of 80-89%;
  • a grade of B is given to a student if he / she achieves a success rate of 70–79%;
  • a student receives a grade of C if he / she achieves a success rate of 60–69%;
  • a student receives a grade of D if he / she achieves a success rate of 50–59%;
  • the student receives an E grade if he / she achieves a success rate of 40-49%;
  • the student receives a grade of F if he / she achieves a success rate of 30-39% (IGCSE only);
  • the student receives a grade of G if he / she achieves a success rate of 20-29% (IGCSE only);
  • the student receives a grade of U if he / she achieves a success below 20%, i.e. below 40% for AS and A level syllabus.

If the student did not attend the written or oral assessments, or did not submit homework, school work or project assignment, it will be marked with an X in the electronic diary.

It is considered that the student received a positive grade if he/she achieved a success of at least 40%, or grade E.

Records of the above grades are kept regularly during the school year in electronic diaries.

The grade at the end of the mid-term, i.e. at the end of the school year, represents the average grade of grades obtained during the school year, i.e. reflects the complete development of students’ competencies according to subject requirements and educational outcomes, in accordance with Cambridge International regulations.

Article 4

External assessment involves the assessment of official Cambridge International exams taken by students in the official exam deadlines (June / November). External assessment is the sole responsibility of Cambridge International and the School cannot in any way influence the assessment process.

The grade of the official Cambridge International exams is expressed in letters and percentages, while the passing grade differs depending on the Cambridge International qualification:

If a student has not attended the official Cambridge International exams but has registered for the exam, the published result is marked with an X.

A student is considered to have received a positive grade if he/she has achieved a minimum of 20%, i.e. a grade of G at the IGCSE level, or 40%, a grade of E at the AS or A level.

IV Duties and responsibilities of teachers

Article 5

Teachers have the right to independently create the type and scope of the school, homework, or project assignment they will assign to students, according to the Cambridge International curriculum, subject requirements and learning outcomes.

Outcomes of school, homework, and project assignments must represent learning outcomes in accordance with Cambridge International regulations and subject requirements.

Teachers are required to create materials and hold mock exams in full compliance with Cambridge International regulations and criteria, that is, mock exams must be a simulation of official Cambridge International exams.

The teacher is obliged to monitor and moderate the work of students during the school year in order to achieve the learning outcomes and subject requirements of Cambridge International.

The teacher is obliged to maintain and evaluate at least during one semester:

  • 2 written assignments, i.e. 2 mock exams for students in the exam years in the second semester;
  • 2 homework assignments or projects;
  • 1 progress test;
  • 2 assessments of class activity.

Article 6

Teachers are required to adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. each subject teacher has 5 (five) days to review, correct and give feedback on the school, homework to the student or his / her parent / guardian, and 7 (seven) days when it comes to the project or exam assignment;
  2. if the subject teacher, for justified reasons, is not able to review school, homework, exam or project assignments within the prescribed period, he is obliged to inform the students about it in time;
  3. the subject teacher is obliged to provide feedback on the quality of work and guidelines for improvement in the comments, except when it comes to the exam task;
  4. the teacher’s comments must not affect the quality of the exam assignment that the student submits as an exam component for the Cambridge exams;
  5. based on personal assessment, the subject teacher has the opportunity to adjust the difficulty and type of homework or project tasks respecting the principle of individualization and differentiation;
  6. each subject teacher in assessment must adhere to the Regulations on assessment with the possibility of using descriptive or numerical assessment;
  7. each teacher is obliged to react to the observed plagiarism in the works of students and to evaluate them with a grade of U;
  8. in case of observed plagiarism at mock exams, the teacher is obliged to grade the work with a grade of U, as well as to act in accordance with the Code of Conduct;
  9. each subject teacher is required to comply with Cambridge International’s assessment regulations when assessing and giving instructions for examination assignments;
  10. each subject teacher can assign a maximum of 1 (one) homework per week, while for project assignments the maximum is 2 (two) per month;
  11. the teacher is not obliged to accept a school, homework, exam or project assignment if it is submitted after a certain deadline;
  12. the number, method of preparation and criteria of examination tasks are determined by the Cambridge International Education.

Article 7

Students are expected to understand the importance of making school, homework, exam or project assignments and to follow all instructions regarding the manner and deadlines for making them.

Students have the obligation to:

  • to get acquainted orally, via e-mail or through school platforms with the type of homework, school, exam or project assignments, deadlines, method of preparation and evaluation of the same;
  • to prepare tasks within the set time limit;
  • to inform the subject teacher if they are not able, for justified reasons, to submit a homework, exam or project assignment within the prescribed period;
  • to make an effort to assign a homework or project assignment in the best possible way;
  • to address the subject teacher if they need help or additional explanation before the deadline set for the assignment;
  • to remain in additional classes at the request of the subject teacher in order to work on a school, homework, exam or project assignment;
  • to independently create a given school, homework, exam or project task, because it is their obligation, and not the obligation of their parents / guardians, brothers, sisters, friends or other relatives;
  • to get to know and respect the rules of making assignments that will be presented to them at the beginning of the school year;
  • to get acquainted with and respect the section of the Rulebook on school, homework and exam assignments, plagiarism and copyright infringement which refers to the prevention of plagiarism and copyright infringement;
  • to cooperate with the members of the group, if it is a school, home, exam or project task of that type.

Students have the right to:

  • receive feedback on the quality of work and guidelines for improvement, unless it is an examination task;
  • request an extension of the deadline required for the preparation of a homework or project assignment if they are justifiably prevented;
  • lodge a complaint with the subject teacher if they are not satisfied with the evaluation, except in the case of an examination task, when the evaluation takes place according to the Cambridge International Education Regulations.

Students are prohibited from submitting papers in which plagiarized parts are listed.

The teacher is obliged to check whether the student’s work is his original work.

If the school, homework, project assignment or written test of the student’s knowledge contains elements of plagiarism, the teacher has the obligation to reject the work and give the student a grade of U.

If the mock exam contains elements of plagiarism, the teacher is obliged to give the student a grade of U and to proceed according to the provisions of the Code of Conduct.

Exam assignments that contain elements of plagiarism will not be considered, which may result in the student failing the exam.

If the student is not satisfied with his results, he can submit an official complaint to the School administration.

The school management will re-evaluate the student’s work and collect all the evidence within 8 days from the day the student submitted the complaint.

The School Administration will communicate with the student and his parent/legal representative and make a decision based on all available evidence.

If the decision or outcome is not satisfactory to the student or his/her parent/guardian, they can appeal.

The school administration will form a complaint committee, which will include: the subject teacher who in this case does not teach the student, the school director and the school coordinators for natural or social sciences..
The appeals committee will make a final decision based on all available evidence no later than 15 days from the day the appeal is submitted to the school.

The decision of the Appeals Committee is final.

Appeals and objections to final exam grades can be submitted to the international exam organization. Complaints and objections are submitted by the coordinator at the School and the decision of the international examination organization is final.

 

Article 8

It is forbidden to take pictures, scan and share assessments, mock exams and exam components.

The school is obliged to store written assessments and components for exams in a safe place.

Parents, i.e. legal guardians of students have the right to have insight into written assessments exclusively on the school premises.

V Rights and obligations of the school

Article 9

The school is required to provide teachers with student assessment materials in accordance with Cambridge International standards, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Past papers;
  • Mark schemes;
  • The syllabus of the subject taught by the teacher.

Heads of the Departments of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Languages ​​are in charge of making sure the assessment process during the school year is conducted in accordance with Cambridge International standards and requirements.

Article 10

Before each exam period, the school is required to provide Cambridge International with Predicted grades for each student.

The school has the right and obligation to form the predicted grade for the student based on the average grade that the student obtained in the mock exams within the prescribed deadlines.

The predicted grade, as well as the final grade on the exam, may differ from the final grade at the end of the school year in the Student Report Card, based on the final grade which includes grades from homework, project activities and participation in classes.

VI Final provisions

Article 11

These Regulations shall enter into force on the eighth day following their publication on the school notice board and will be applied starting from January 10 2022.
