International School and its Global Perspectives teacher Tatjana Koluvija were the hosts of a great event for the second time this school year. The school’s eTwinning project “Mindfulness in teaching” was a great opportunity for us, our partner school from Belgium, and other schools from Turkey and Lithuania to gather and exchange positive energy and good vibes. More than 40 students from different schools joined in.
This mindfulness summit was about peace and love in the world, which is what we discussed at the outset.
Working together towards a better society
At the very beginning, school representatives talked about their schools. Some of them had recorded videos of the schools, which they used to present the facilities and students. International school representative, Year 12 student Jelena Parmak, talked about our school vision and daily life in the school.
After a short discussion, Miss Els Hamaekers, a teacher from Belgium, guided the students and teachers in meditation. It was very relaxing and peaceful. Everyone enjoyed it and commented on it after the session. All the participants agreed that we are all the same – we have the same needs, same goals, same fears. This meditation was dedicated to world peace since we all feel sad and insecure about the crisis in Europe.
International School supports its students in their social-emotional development
The most beautiful moment at this summit was definitely when one of the students pointed out how grateful they were to have teachers who supported them in social-emotional development instead of focusing only on academic achievements. Not only do the teachers support them, but they also pay attention to their students with a lot of love and appreciation.
We are looking forward to yet another summit and learning how to live with more peace, purpose, and wisdom.
