Iva Jevtić, a Year 13 student of International School, was accepted to the prestigious University of Amsterdam (UVA)!
We will share some of Iva’s tips and tricks to motivate you, because we don’t want to be one of those people who say: “Didn’t I tell you that you have to start preparing for enrollment at university on time?”.
The secret of Iva’s recipe for success
1. Choose the country where you want to live and find your field of interest
First, I picked countries where I want to live, and the final selection included Italy and The Netherlands. Then I found my field of interest – communicology. With the help of Via Academica, I prepared a list of seven potential universities – three in Milan, Italy, and four in The Netherlands.
By December 2021, I had finished writing my university application cover letters, and sent them in early 2022.
I have been provisionally admitted to several universities, and I can proudly say that the University of Amsterdam (UVA), ranked among the top 60 universities in the world, top 20 universities in Europe, and the first in the world when it comes to the Department of Communicology, is one of them. I cannot wait to move to Amsterdam, meet new people and enjoy new experiences!
2. Do not rush your decisions, but start researching on time
You do not have to make a decision instantaneously, but my advice is to start researching and asking about on time. This way, you will know your options, and be able to discuss them with your teachers, family and friends.
Your choice of subjects is a major factor when it comes to admission. Make sure that you’ve chosen subjects that really interest you. I started with elimination, and crossed out A-level subjects that I don’t particularly like. The final choice included mathematics, psychology, digital media and French. The teachers, and especially my mentor, helped me “shape” my list of subjects and design a learning plan so as to finish high school with good grades and without stress.
3. The preparation process is incredibly exciting
The process itself is difficult, but the outcome can be incredibly exciting, as it was in my case, and I’m sure it will be in yours, as well!
Good luck!”
We don’t even have to say how proud we are! Iva, we wish you the best of luck – you deserve it!
