Students of Savremena International School were some of numerous visitors of the Science Festival held under the slogan “Miracles are everywhere” on Saturday, December 5th.
What is the Science Festival?
The Science Festival has expanded into the greatest scientific event in the region of southeastern Europe over the past eight years. For the first time this year, the Festival was held on the Belgrade Fair grounds, where the visitors has an opportunity to experience the true magic of science on the area of 6,000 square meters.
This year’s Science Festival presented some new and rather interesting guests from abroad, and the leading star from the world of science was a TED speaker, Greg Gage, who arrived from America. The Festival featured more than 550 scientists who inspired curiosity through their interaction with the audience and transformed this visit into an unforgettable adventure. A great deal of attention was given to holograms, lasers and optical fibres, forensics and ecology.
What were our students able to see and learn at the Science Festival?
Electrical engineering, geology, physics, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine were just some of over 50 areas of natural sciences, social studies, technical and medicinal sciences, and humanities that students of Savremena International School could encounter.
They learnt how to take care of water, what dangers might lurk from it and how to preserve it. At scientific demonstrations of the Centre for the Promotion of Science our students could see the wavelengths of light, since the Science Festival joined in celebrating the year 2015 as the International Year of Light. This is provided visitors an insight into the incredible abilities of light beams.
“Every machine has a soul that is part of its inventor’s soul. Seek the soul in machines.” – this is what Mihajlo Pupin used to say. All interested students got a unique opportunity to take pictures with the projected image of this renowned scientist.
Besides explosions and light effects, they also saw telekinesis, dinosaur fossils, optical illusions, and various other experiments.
The aim of visiting the Science Festival
The aim of visiting the Science Festival was not only to discover many new and interesting scientific discoveries, but also to inspire even greater interest for science and see how complex and fun the world around us can be.
