On Monday, 22 February, International School Year 10 and Year 11 students visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the supreme representative body and the holder of constitutional and legislative power in the Republic of Serbia.
A protected cultural monument
Our guide showed us the inner workings of the assembly and the work done by the councillors and other members. She also presented the history of the building and the artists who worked on the sculptures inside the building, and talked about its cultural heritage and the fact that the building is a protected cultural monument. Due to its exceptional historical, architectural and artistic value, the building of today’s National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia was declared a cultural monument in 1984.
Students were introduced to five rooms that serve different purposes. International School students had some questions for the guide about how the assembly functions and whether it is open to the public. The students showed great interest in this visit. International School students were accompanied by their French teacher, Marija Panić, and school life coordinator Neda Semiz. It was quite an experience for the students who have an interest in political science, history and architecture.
